Birth Doula

As a doula I provide emotional, physical and educational support to women during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. I help the entire family make a smooth transition into life with a new baby.

I believe that a birth doula:

• Recognizes birth as a key experience the mother will remember all her life
• Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor
• Assists the woman in preparing for and carrying out her plans for birth in a non-judgmental manner
• Stays with the woman continuously throughout the labor
• Provides emotional support, physical comfort measures and an objective viewpoint, as well as helping the woman get the information she needs to make informed decision
• Facilitates communication between the laboring woman, her partner and her clinical care providers
• Perceives her role as nurturing and protecting the woman’s memory of the birth experience
• Allows the woman’s partner to participate at his/her comfort level

My services include:

• 3 prenatal visits, tailored to your specific needs
• Formulation of a comprehensive birth plan
• Support for the laboring family at home and assistance in determining when to leave for hospital/birth center
• Comforting touch and emotional support
• Relaxation and visualization techniques
• Explanation of medical procedures and interventions
• Informational, emotional, and physical support during labor and delivery
• Assistance with first breastfeeding
• Continued postpartum support/assistance until you are settled and ready for your privacy
• 2 postpartum follow-up visits
• Unlimited phone and email support from signing of the contract until 4 weeks postpartum

The birth doula support package is $1000. The fee is payable via Paypal, check, or cash. Discounts for combined services (like birth and postpartum doula support) are available.
